Food Giveaway at Kangemi Slums in Nairobi
In January of 2024, we delivered on the project to serve the people of Kangemi Slums in Nairobi County.
Project Background
Kangemi is located in Nairobi and is one of the areas in immediate and urgent help in access to basic needs and healthcare.
Being a slum located in the outskirts of Nairobi it has very poor sewerage infrastructure this puts the residents of Kangemi slums at a high risk.
The Food Giveaway
American rapper and record producer Joseph Thompson (JT Bigga Figga) in collaboration with Trapflix TV and FillmoeAfrica donated over 2,000 kilos of unga (maize flour) to this project.
Over 250 community residents, primarily mothers with children, received 4 to 6 kilos of unga to take home.
Volunteers from Trapflix TV and members of J.Lynne Africa C.D.O participated during the food giveaway which took place at The Holy Spirit Church of East Africa Kabete Branch of Kangemi. The bishop attended to speak with the residents and pray with them.
The giveaway was a success as even after providing to the local residents of Kangemi slums, other residents were still able to benefit from the food that was left over.
Project Description
J.Lynne Africa C.D.O hosted and coordinated the giveaway for the project sponsors.
Kangemi slums of Nairobi continue to suffer from poverty conditions lacking critical resources for the community.
Clean water, adequate housing, secure tenure, sanitation waste management, boreholes, and infrastructural development are greatly needed in this community.
The Challenges
- Poor sewerage systems has put the residents of Kangemi at a health risk of contracting diseases.
- Lack of health care facilities in the area has made it impossible for the community to access health services.
- Poor living conditions affect access to education for the children in this community.
- The poverty in this region is detrimental to the Kangemi slums society for it increases the mortality rates due to high risk activities such as drug abuse, robbery and a high crime rate.
- Poor infrastructure also greatly hinders development in business and societal growth.
