Food Giveaway at Wendiga Public Primary School in Nyeri County
In January of 2024, we delivered on the Project Hope for children at a local primary school in Nyeri County Kieni Constituency.
Project Background
This project was developed and aimed at helping children in Wendiga Primary School. The school is located in Nyeri County, Kieni Constituency a largely semi-arid and dry region. This poses several challenges, mainly access to water for use at home and schools and also agriculture. This then also affects the schools.
Beneficiaries of the Food Giveaway
Children at the Wendiga Primary school in Nyeri county of Kenya received Unga (maize flour) during the food giveaway!
186 kilos of unga were donated to the school for the children's lunch meals.
Project Description
At J.Lynne Africa C.D.O we prioritize on education, as it is a way to develop brighter futures for children and expand their opportunities in future.
The Kenyan government gives all public schools a quarterly budget to manage but the funds are often inadequate to meet the demands of the ever-growing number of pupils and sustaining their needs in low-income and underdeveloped rural communities.
This was our second project at delivering food to this school. Wendiga Primary School is affected by poverty with no access to sustainable water and fountains, electricity, dining halls, regular meal programs, learning supplies, desks, recreational playgrounds, and exercise areas.
The Challenges
- Most of the children from Wendiga Primary School cannot afford their children's school fees, supplies, clothes, uniforms, and daily meals and this affects the children's learning abilities for a great educational start.
- The school property lacks infrastructural development and has no access to sidewalks, landscaping, tarmacs and paving, appropriate fencing, security, and parking.
- Since the beginning of 2018 the Kenyan educational school system was changed from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-based curriculum (C.B.C) system 2-6-3-3-3. Since then this has raised some infrastructure inadequacies as it combined primary schools with the beginning stages of secondary schools, increasing the number of pupils within each primary school.
- The schools have become overcrowded creating conditions for sanitation problems, and overcrowded classrooms.
- Also, the teachers do not have the resources needed to perform job duties within the school such as computers, printers, file cabinets, electricity with outlets, printers, basic supplies, desks, etc.
Plans for a brighter future
- By excavating boreholes, more children will have access to clean sustainable water and agricultural projects.
- Your donations will help create a brighter future by preparing them for the next stages of education while combating hunger.
- Parents, teachers, and children like those of Wendiga Primary School will benefit from your support.
- Infrastructural developments such as boreholes excavation will help create jobs, also giving access to clean sustainable water for the community residents.
